SRINAGAR : Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was resumed after remaining suspended for two days due to snowfall and landslides.
However, the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road, remained closed since December. A traffic police official said today that traffic on the Kashmir highway was resumed after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared snow and landslides on the road.
He said about 800 trucks, loaded with essentials and 200 vehicles, carrying passengers which were stranded at several places on the highway, were allowed to move towards Kashmir last evening.
Today traffic were allowed from both the sides, he said. The highway was closed due to heavy snowfall at several places, including Jawahar tunnel, Banihal, Shaitan Nallah and Patnitop on February 11. Meanwhile, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway also remained closed since last December due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions. (AGENCIES)
