Traffic on highway connecting Ladakh resumes

SRINAGAR :  Traffic on the highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, was resumed this morning after remaining suspended last evening due to snowfall.
“We allowed traffic from Kargil and Drass, the second  coldest place in the world this morning for Srinagar,” official sources said.
They said vehicles, carrying passengers besides empty  trucks, were allowed to move towards Srinagar from other side of the Zojila pass.
Similarly after clearing vehicles from other side of the pass, vehicles from here would be allowed subject to road condition, they said adding due to drop in the temperature, road is becoming slippery.
A large number of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essentials for Ladakh region have been stopped at Sonamarg and other places.
The road was closed last evening following fresh snowfall  at Kargil, Drass, Meenmarg and Zojila.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway have already put into service sophisticated machines and men in the area to keep the through. (AGENCIES)
