RAMBAN, Aug 25: Traffic on busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained suspended for about 18 hours due to heavy landslides in Ramsoo and Magarkote area of Ramban today.
Official sources said that the landslide occurred near the Block Development Office at Ramsoo, during wee hours, blocking the busy highway. The blockade also took place at two more places between Ramsoo and Magarkote where road widening work is in progress.
While the National Highway authorities cleared the slides in the afternoon enabling the authorities to clear some vehicles but more landslides took place and the road was again blocked.
SSP National Highway Shakti Pathak told Excelsior that road-clearance operation was launched and efforts were on to restore the road in the shortest possible time. He said landslides at two places were cleared. At a point near Magarkote, two big rocks lying on the highway are being blasted and highway will be cleared shortly thereafter. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the highway.
