Traffic Department goes tough against violators

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Traffic Department today fined scores of drivers and seized tape recorders as well as documents over violations of traffic rules in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The drive against traffic violators was started by ARTO Baramulla, Abdul Ahad Yatoo, at various places in the district including Khawaja Bagh and Sheeri areas.
An official said that an amount of Rs 70, 000 was collected from traffic violators. He said that 110 tape recorders were also seized from passenger vehicles and cabs as the Traffic Department was receiving frequent complaints. “Many elders complained to us that the drivers play loud music in their vehicles and that is why these tape recorders were seized,” the official said. Besides, he said, the department also seized documents of 30 vehicles.
The ARTO said that the drive against traffic violators would continue on every Wednesday. “We will act tough against the violators and won’t spare anyone. We appeal people to adhere to traffic rules for their safety as well as safety of others,” he said. The top official also urged people to use helmets and safety belts while driving.
