MENDHAR, May 14: The traders in Mendhar today protested against the failure of the administration in constructing the proper drainage system in the Mendhar market, where the water logging due to heavy rains today created a havoc after the rain water accumulated in the market and entered many shops damaging the goods lying their.
Shopkeepers alleged that their goods worth lakhs of rupees were damaged as they remained soaked in water for three hours.
They said as it rained heavily for half an hour in the area today entire water got accumulated in the market due to lack of proper drainage system. The traders while raising slogans demanded a probe into the matter and action against the officers responsible for the criminal negligence.
Parveen Kumar Sawhney president Beopar Mandal Mendhar said that in case the immediate steps were not taken by the administration, the traders will launch agitation. He said it is criminal negligence on the part of administration as this is not for the first time that rains created havoc in Mendhar market but traders have suffered several times on account of the same in past.
Later, Tehsildar Mendhar along with other officers of the tehsil visited the market to assess the situation and he asked the BDO Mendhar to prepare a report of the loss and cause of water stagnation.
