Trader booked for overcharging on online payment

JAMMU, Jan 5: Acting swiftly on a complaint, Legal Metrology Department today booked M/s Satyam Super Shoppee for deceiving the gullible consumer by charging extra on the pretext of bank charges.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Enforcement, a complainant purchased goods from the trader with marked MRP worth Rs 327 and made the payment through online to support cashless economy drive. But, he was surprised to notice that Rs 7 were charged in the bill as bank charges.
He made a complaint to Jammu district administration which sought report from Lead District Manager (LDM). The bank termed this additional charge as malpractice by the merchant as no additional charge is to be taken from customer.
According to Circular No. 511 dated December 3, 2016, 1% charges are deducted from merchant account with Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh online sale and 2% is deducted for the sales above Rs one lakh and this Merchant Service Fee (MSF) is refundable to the merchant. In any case, no consumer can be charged extra.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh, a team of Legal Metrology Department booked the trader for overcharging and seizure memo was issued. The Legal Metrology Department has appealed all the consumers not to pay additional charges on online payments and in case any such malpractice is observed a complaint can be lodged with the department.
