Since long Jammu has been demanding proper and sensible expansion of tourist industry in the region and not confine it to Kashmir valley only. Jammu is a hilly region and all the spots of scenic beauty in the region have not been explored and exploited so far. Dagan Top, Tatta Pani, Konsar Naag, Sangaldhan and numerous other attractive spots which people would love to visit for enjoying the natural beauty, have not been developed. State Tourist Department has been claiming that it upholds the policy of uniform development of tourist industry in the State. These words are seldom translated into practice. The scenic spots located in remote mountains would be great attraction for lovers of nature if basic facilities of road connectivity, accommodation and logistics were available. Tourism, as we know, is one of the instruments that contribute to the development of the backward areas.
The Tourist Department should formulate a comprehensive plan of developing tourist spots in Jammu region especially in Bhaderwah, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramnagar, Mandi, Savjian, Gagrian on Poonch, spots along the Mughal road stations and other places. We are confident that many of the scenic spots in these regions can be developed in due course of time in a way to boost tourism industry in the region.
