JAMMU, Jan 6: Amid specific inputs that number of militants have been camping across Line of Control (LoC) as well as International Border (IB) to “exploit foggy and chilly weather conditions” to infiltrate into the Indian territory, Army and BSF have further stepped-up patrolling and installed sophisticated equipments to beat the fog and keep 24×7 surveillance on the militants and ensure that they don’t manage to infiltration into this side.
“The inputs are very specific and credible. There has been large presence of militants across IB and LoC and Pakistani Rangers and Army are there to shield them and facilitate their infiltration attempts, but we have put our strategy in place to country any kind of infiltration attempt,” sources said.
They added that inputs of infiltration attempt by the militants were “more specific” about the International Border as Pakistan-backed ultras of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfits as they planned to target vital installation of security forces and public after sneaking into this side from the border under the cover of foggy weather conditions, which have been prevailing in plain areas of entire International Border right from Kathua to Akhnoor.
Apart from stepping-up foot patrolling the BSF has also installed sophisticated gadgetry along the International Border to keep longer visibility despite dense fog for strict surveillance on any kind of infiltration attempts by the militants to ensure that they (the militants) and their mentors (Pakistan Army and Rangers) don’t manage to succeed.
The inputs revealed that the militants wanted to infiltrate from the border and carry out terror attack on vital installations of security forces and public.
Only a day before, the BSF had foiled major infiltration attempt in Arnia sector on the International Border by killing a terrorist and forced two to three others to retreat to Pakistan. The group of militants was heavily equipped with arms, ammunition and explosives, which indicates their “bad intentions”. However, they couldn’t succeed in their designs due to alertness displayed by the BSF.
Sources said along the LoC also, the militants have been camping on the launching pads, located close to the LoC on Pakistan side with a view to sneak into this side taking advantage of fog and chill. However, the troops have been maintaining “very high alert” on the LoC and have also installed modernized equipment to foil the infiltration attempts.
“Last year also, Army and BSF didn’t allow any infiltration attempt by the militants to succeed on the LoC and IB respectively despite lot of efforts by the militants to sneak-in under the cover of mortar shelling and firing in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch,” sources said.
They added that the militants were under pressure from their mentors sitting in Pakistan including the commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad outfits to force their infiltration into the Indian side and carry out attack on vital installations to make their presence felt as security forces didn’t allow their designs to succeed for the past quite some time.
Last year, Pakistan army committed highest ever ceasefire violations on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts and, under the cover of firing and shelling, it tried to push trained militants into the Indian territory a number of times but failed all the times due to alertness displayed by the Indian troops.
As highest number of 200 militants were killed in Kashmir last year, various militant outfits like LeT and JeM were under pressure from Pakistan army and Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) to push their cadre into Jammu and Kashmir to compensate for ever depleting strength of the militants.
