JAMMU, Dec 25: Police and Intelligence agencies have been put on a high state of alert in entire Jammu City following specific inputs that an ‘operation chief’ of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit has managed to sneak into somewhere in the City and could probably be on “some kind of mission”.
Police and Intelligence agencies came into action last evening after movement of Hizbul Mujahideen’s ‘operational chief’ for Sopore-Abdul Qayoom Asgar alias Qayoom Najar son of Abdul Ahad Najar, a resident of Sopore-was monitored somewhere near Jewel Chowk, top police and Intelligence sources said today.
Qayoom Najar, an ‘A’ grade militant is being looked by several security agencies including Army, CRPF and police in the entire Kashmir Valley including Sopore for plotting various subversive activities.
Sources said Qayoom Najar had used fake driving license of one Bashir Ahmad as an identity card to enter Jammu and probably checked into a hotel in the City before deserting immediately as police and Intelligence agencies fanned out everywhere to nab him.
However, police and Intelligence agencies were reportedly handicapped as they had no photograph of Qayoom Najar with them. But they immediately prepared a sketch of the top Hizbul Mujahideen commander to use it for tracing him.
More than one and a half dozen hotels in some “sensitive areas” of the City were searched last night till early hours of this morning to trace Najar.
One Bashir Ahmad of Tral was detained for questioning briefly as Qayoom Najar was using fake driving license of Bashir Ahmad as identity card. However, Bashir Ahmed was later released as it was confirmed that he had come here as an attendant with a patient.
Sources said police and Intelligence agencies had three locations of Qayoom Najar, where all hotels were frisked. Even police had to search a hotel where Jammu and Kashmir cricket team was staying as security agencies anticipated that the Hizbul commander could mix up with the people of Kashmir in a hotel to escape arrest.
Sources couldn’t comment on the “mission” of Qayoom Najar in entering Jammu City especially at a time when police was on high alert in view of reports that Pakistan was desperate to repeat September 26 like fidayeen attack.
“Most likely the Hizbul Mujahideen wanted to create some sleeper cells in the City, if not the active cadre, as the outfit was completely dead in Jammu and was under immense pressure from across the border to carry out some kind of activity here,” sources said but added that pressure maintained by police and Intelligence agencies have not allowed the militant outfit to succeed in their plot.
“Qayoom Najar would be arrested if he is still in the City or wouldn’t be allowed to succeed in his designs,” sources said, adding that the militant would try to escape back to Sopore, where he had some safe hideouts. Police and Intelligence agencies were also on high alert on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to nab the militants.
Worthwhile to mention here that Qayoom Najar is a dreaded militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and was presently operating as ‘operation head’ of the outfit for Sopore. Qayoom’s entry here is being seen as major attempt by the Hizbul Mujahideen to re-activate the dying outfit in Jammu.
