SRINAGAR, June 4: Security forces today killed top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Nisar Khanday, in Rishipora area of Anantnag and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Security forces, on a specific input regarding the presence of a militant in Rishipora area of Anantnag, launched an operation last evening.
The hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated by the security forces leading to an encounter.
In the initial exchange of fire, three Army personnel and a civilian were injured. All the injured were immediately airlifted to 92 Base Hospital Srinagar for treatment.
One militant identified as Nisar Khanday, commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and active since year 2018 was killed in the overnight gun battle.
As per police records, he was a categorized militant and was part of the groups involved in several attacks on police, security forces and civilians.
He was earlier arrested in year 2000 along with arms and ammunition and detained under PSA. Before joining militancy in 2018, he was working as the militant associate of the HM.
He has been involved in several killings of civilians and security forces besides mastermind in fresh recruitment of youth into militancy.
