JAMMU, Sept 29: Notorious gangster Vipan Gupta alias Bhoot today escaped from custody of Domana police station giving a dodge to the police personnel. Two cops have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty leading to escape of the gangster.
Reports said a young girl of New Plots yesterday lodged a report at Domana police station that she was kidnapped and raped by Vipan Bhoot of Shakti Nagar and Vikram Singh of Shiv Nagar in a house at Udheywalla.
Domana police conducted raid and arrested both the accused.
The girl was sent for medical examination.
Sources said Vipan Bhoot took advantage of the situation when the electricity was off at police station. He moved towards police quarters and jumped down. In the process, he also hit a civilian.
The escape of Bhoot was noticed immediately and police parties were sent to nab him. However, he remained untraced till late tonight when the reports last came in.
Police authorities have placed under suspension the Munshi of police station, Gurvinder and Sentry on duty Mohammad Altaf and registered a case against them for dereliction of duty.
An inquiry has also been ordered in the escape of top criminal, reports said.
Vipan Bhoot had been arrested a number of times for his involvement in various cases.
