JAMMU, Nov 17: Taranjit Singh Tony, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and District Development Council (DDC) Member, Suchetgarh has urged the Union Territory administration to initiate immediate measures to bring a halt to the rocketing graph of rising road mishaps resulting in the loss of precious lives in the region every year.
In a statement issued to media here today, the senior Congress leader said that it is a matter of great concern that road accidents on J&K roads especially the National Highway and other linking highways in hilly areas have become a routine feature with the authorities doing mere lip service and paying ex-gratia without bothering to address the root cause of these tragic accidents.
He said that had this serious issue been addressed properly and well in time the fatal accident in Doda district would not have happened and about 40 precious lives would not have been lost.
Tony urged the administration led by Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to constitute joint teams of Traffic Police and Transport Department including the RTO to check the rising accidents in J&K.
