JAMMU, Aug 10: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, led a delegation of residents from the Jeevan Nagar area of Jammu City to meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya.
The delegation apprised the DC of the severe hardships faced by residents due to the flooding of their homes, attributed to a faulty bridge in the area.
The meeting was also attended by the Joint Commissioner JMC Abdul Sattar, Chief Engineers of the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) and the Public Works Department (PWD) along with their SEs and XEns.
During the meeting, Tony submitted a memorandum of demands, emphasizing the urgent need to dismantle the faulty bridge in Jeevan Nagar and to remove the debris from the already dismantled bridge in Bhour Kullian. He asserted that these structures are the primary cause of the recurrent flooding, which has brought immense distress to the local population.
The Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that he would escalate this critical issue to the Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and the Commissioner Secretary of the R&B Department to expedite the decision-making process regarding the dismantling and replacement of the faulty bridge, which is already included in the PWD’s plans for a new pillarless bridge. He also directed the XEn R&B, Barinder Paul Singh to remove the already dismantled bridge in Bhour Kullian on priority basis. He also directed the XEn UEED to visit the spot on Monday and make a fresh DPR of Landoi Choi Nallah.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked SDM Atul Sharma to prepare a report on dismantling the bridge of Jeevan Nagar area and other measures to be taken for the residents to prevent their house from further flooding water.
The delegation included prominent residents such as Poonam Sharma, Suman Choudhary, Kailash Devi, Dolly Sachdeva, Mohinder Singh and many others.
