KOLKATA, Feb 11 : Veteran journalist Sagarika Ghosh figures among the four Trinamool Congress nominees from West Bengal for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll, the party announced on Sunday.
Sushmita Dev, Mamata Bala Thakur, and Nadimul Haque are the other names announced by the TMC for the biennial election to the upper House of parliament.
Ghosh is also the wife of noted journalist-television anchor Rajdeep Sardesai.
Five seats from West Bengal are up for grabs for the RS elections.
The retiring members from the state are TMC’s Abir Ranjan Biswas, Subhasish Chakraborty, Nadimul Haque and Santanu Sen, and Congress member Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
BJP has announced that it will put up a candidate for one Rajya Sabha seat from the state.
As per the arithmetic in the House, the Trinamool has the strength to ensure the victory of four candidates, while The BJP possesses the numbers to win one seat. (UNI)
