TJAC begins indefinite hunger strike for 7th Pay Commission to SSA teachers

Sit-in protest by JKRETTF enters 3rd day

JAMMU, Aug 30: Teachers Joint Action Committee, an amalgam of various teachers’ organizations, today started indefinite chain hunger strike for rederssal of the grievances of SSA/RMSA teachers and Masters.
The hunger strike was organized under the leadership of State president of Jammu Kashmir ReT Teachers Forum, Vinod Sharma and State general secretary of Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum, Ganesh Khajuria, who are also senior leaders of TJAC.
The protesters are demanding implementation of 7th Pay Commission in favour of SSA /RMSA Teachers/ Masters and de-linking of SSA salary from MHRD by linking the same with State budget. Click here to watch video
The TJAC leaders, who began their 24-hour fast this morning, included Vinod Sharma, State president JKRTTF; Ganesh Khajuria, State general secretary JKTF; Sukhdev Singh Sumbria, State chief coordinator JKRTTF; Rajesh Singh Jamwal, provincial president, P D Singh, Gotam Singh, Ravinder Manhas, Surjit Singh, Ravinder Chib and Rajeet Singh. A large number of SSA Teachers and Masters accompanied those sitting on chain hunger strike.
While addressing the gathering, Vinod Sharma and Ganesh Khajuria lambasted the State Government for its casual and biased approach towards SSA/RMSA Teachers and Masters who have been deprived of 7th Pay Commission and their salary has not been linked with the State budget. They said that due to this negative approach of the Government, more than 40000 teachers and their families were living in mental trauma.
They informed that from 3rd of September 2018, similar indefinite hunger strike is also going to be organized at Srinagar under the banner of TJAC and leadership of TJAC chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani. “We will not lift such hunger strike till 7th Pay Commission benefit is given to these Teachers and Masters and if our grievances are not taken seriously, we will be forced to intensify our stir,” they announced.
Meanwhile, the five-day sit-in protest by the ReT teachers, on the call of Jammu Kashmir Rehbar-e-Talim Teachers Forum, led by its chairman Farooq Ahmad Tantray, entered into third consecutive day on Thursday. They are also demanding implementation of 7th Pay Commission on SSA/RMSA teachers and de-linking of their salary from the Central source of funding.
After leading protest dharna at Srinagar for two days, Farooq Ahmad Tantray today joined the sit-in protest at Jammu.
