SAMBA, Feb 13: Tipper Association Samba held a protest rally against the Mining Department here, today. The rally was started from Jatwal and culminated at DC Office complex, Samba.
According to the Tipper Association they were already on strike from the last five days protesting against the ban on mining in JKUT for the last 18 months. They however alleged that the illegal mining continues with the help of contractors of the Mining Department.

They said contractors also take extra charges from tractor trolleys and tippers despite the fact that the district administration has already set rates of mining for sanctioned mining blocks i.e Rs 2.5 per feet. The contractors are charging Rs 12 per feet and owners of the tippers can’t afford these high rates due to which they can’t justify the salaries of drivers and conductors. Under the circumstances they are forced to ground their vehicles on road side because expenses are too high, they added.
After protest members of the Association met with the DC Samba, Rohit Khajuria and gave a memorandum to him. The DC assured the Association to raise their genuine demand with higher authorities and try to solve this problem within days.
Finally the Association complimented the DC Samba, Rohit Khajuria who listened to the grievances of the Tipper Association.
