JAMMU, Aug 25: The first of its kind Tinkering Lab of IIT Jammu, which is fully functional and managed by the students, was inaugurated today.
Sharad Kumar Saraf , Board of Governors, IIT Jammu , was the chief guest on the occasion while the event was also attended by Damyanti Bhattacharya , CEO of MBF (Maker Bhavan Foundation) , Ruyintan Mehta from MBF, Rishi Pathania , CSR of UPL( United Phosphorus Limited) and Kamakshi Singh from JKDFC(J&K Development Finance Corporation Limited ).
The event was guided by presence of Director Manoj Guar and august faculty members like Rakesh Singhai and Ankit Dubey.
Tinkerers’ Lab is one space where you learn, develop, and conceptualize your ideas and experience hands-on learning. The lab has a wide variety of machines that support rapid prototyping. The core motto of the lab is to “Enter with an Idea, Leave with a Product.”
The core team members presented a brief description of ongoing and completed projects going in the lab, for example, Flipcart grid 3.0 bots, which secured the second position around the nation, Arduino-operated robotic car, Robotic arms, Smart google equipped with Blind Stick, Quadrobot, Quadcopter, Portable water filter, and Cubical satellite.
The event pondered upon how there is a disconnect between academic field and industry, which can be bridged by more functioning tinkering labs all over the country. The event talked about sustainable industry, finished products and budding entrepreneurship in a technical collage like IIT.
There was a detailed presentation by Dharmik Shah, Manager Tinkering Lab on the functioning, motto, future endeavors, and ongoing projects of the lab. Many ongoing and completed DIP projects were also discussed.
The lab was inaugurated by Ruyintan Mehta in presence of other guests. It was followed by a detailed tour into lab machinery and ongoing projects which were completely done by student team of Tinkering Lab.
The event ended with MBF and UPL honoring the team manager of Tinkering Lab with secured funding for future ventures.
