AHMEDABAD, May 17: Union Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Gujarat must now elevate itself to the top position in the service sector after performing exceptionally well across key segments like manufacturing, engineering, and green energy.
Speaking at the inauguration of Ganesh Housing’s “Million Minds Tech Park”, Shah asserted that if Ahmedabad aspired to position itself on par with major tech hubs like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Gurugram, such modern infrastructure initiatives are essential.
“Gujarat has performed exceptionally well across a wide spectrum of sectors: manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceuticals, ports, logistics, green energy, industrial infrastructure, and investment. However, the time has now come to elevate Gujarat to a position among the top three states in the service sector as well,” he said.
Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to attract technology, innovation, knowledge, entrepreneurship, and high-skill-based industries to Gujarat, thereby fostering job creation and ensuring the state takes the lead nationally in the realm of new-age technologies.
He said that whenever Gujarat steps into a sector with determination, it takes no time at all to secure a spot among the top three, and it will achieve the same success in the IT sector as well.
Traditionally, the people of Gujarat carry the spirit of entrepreneurship in their DNA, and this quality has been further bolstered by the government’s support in building robust infrastructure, the Union minister said.
For the government, especially the one led by then Chief Minister Modi, ‘infrastructure’ meant policies, the creation of a conducive environment, financial mechanisms, a proactive approach, and the provision of platforms such as ‘Vibrant Gujarat’, he said.
“Through these concerted efforts, we have propelled Gujarat’s industrial growth to unprecedented heights — an achievement acknowledged and acclaimed by the entire world,” he added.
He further pointed out that over the past two to three years, PM Modi has placed significant emphasis on developing tech parks and Global Capability Centres (GCCs), leading to a transformation of the entire spectrum of economic activities.
Shah noted that the Million Minds Tech Park, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore and spanning 13.5 lakh square feet, will provide an excellent, conducive working environment for 9,000 highly skilled professionals in its first phase. Upon completion of all seven planned phases, the project is expected to generate over 63,000 high-value jobs, he said.
The GREMI City Campus is also an important initiative for the real estate sector, he added. “Real estate sector encompasses a multitude of interconnected issues — environmental concerns to urban planning. Yet no one has previously addressed these aspects comprehensively. Furthermore, if urban planning is not executed effectively, cities cannot develop into well-structured and livable spaces,” he said.
In this specific domain, the world has advanced significantly in terms of both planning methodologies and technological integration, and the institute marks a monumental step forward in fostering a holistic perspective — one that encourages us to view and address all these interconnected elements in their entirety, he said.
Spanning 30,000 square feet, GREMI City Campus will accommodate a first batch of 300 students. Additionally, a main campus, to be developed on 100 acres near Ahmedabad at a cost of Rs 500 crore, is currently in the pipeline, Shah said. (Agencies)
