Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile begins 11th session with strong solidarity resolutions

DHARMSHALA, Mar 24 : The 11th session of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile commenced with the adoption of key resolutions expressing solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet and raising concerns over recent Chinese policies.

A five-point solidarity resolution, moved by MP Tsering Yangchen and seconded by Geshe Ngawa Gangri, lauded the courage and sacrifices of Tibetans and called for protection of fundamental human rights, release of political prisoners including the 11th Panchen Lama, and an end to repression.

It also advocated declaring Tibet a “zone of peace” and supported the Middle Way Policy for resolving the Sino-Tibet issue through dialogue.

Another resolution expressed concern over China’s new “Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress,” passed on March 12, 2026, and set to take effect from July 1.

Moved by Sikyong Penpa Tsering and seconded by DIIR Kalon Norzin Dolma, it urged the United Nations to review the law and called for accountability over alleged cultural suppression.

The House also appealed to the international community to visit Tibet and assess ground realities, while urging Tibetans in exile to remain united and strengthen efforts globally to safeguard their cultural identity.
