JAMMU, Feb 25: Thousands of people drawn from all walks of life gave touching adieu to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of JKP Aman Kumar Thakur, who was cremated with full State honours at the cremation ground in Marh here this afternoon.
DySP Aman Kumar Thakur attained martyrdom in encounter during search and cordon operation at Turigam village of district Kulgam of South Kashmir yesterday. Three militants were also gunned down in the gunfight.
The entire village was in shock and a pall of gloom had descended at the house of martyr’s brother at Nagbani in tehsil Marh, near the International Border here after hearing the news yesterday. The tears yelled the eyes of family members and villagers as the body reached there.
The tricolour-wrapped coffin carrying the mortal remains of the officer reached at his brother’s residence in a specially-decorated vehicle, where people from all walks of life received the body amid chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Shaheed Aman Amar Rahe” and “Pakistan Murdabad”.
The people jostled to come closer to the body as wails of relatives and close friends of the martyred police officer charged the atmosphere with angry mourners demanding stern action against Pakistan for supporting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the body was being taken to the cremation ground, people lined up on both sides of the three-kilometer road and showered flowers as a mark of respect for the son of the soil for his supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
However, jostling between pride and grief, martyr DySP Aman Thakur’s elder brother Suresh Goria said that he feels proud of his brother for laying down his life while fighting the militants for his motherland.
Almost all senior police officers of the State led by the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh attended the last rites of the slain officer, which were performed with full State honours.
While talking to the media persons, locals said, “How long will we continue to lose our sons to this senseless violence? We want decisive action against Pakistan”.
“Government should take a decision once and for all and go for ‘Aaar Paar’ war so that the issue is settled for decades to come and no woman in future will become widow or a child becomes orphan”, they added.
The owner of the house at Reshamgarh in Jammu city, where Thakur was staying as a tenant, and the neighbours were left shell-shocked on hearing about the officer’s martyrdom in the encounter with militants.
Son of Swami Raj and a resident of village Gagla Sar in Kastigarh area of District Doda, Thakur was a 2011-batch Jammu and Kashmir Police Service Officer. He is survived by aged parents, wife Sarla Devi and six-year-old son Arya.
As reported, Aman Thakur gave up two Government jobs to don the uniform. After Post Graduation in Zoology from Jammu University, he first got a job in the Social Welfare Department and was later appointed as Lecturer with School Education Department.
While talking the EXCELSIOR, the people of martyr’s native village in District Doda have asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take decisive steps against Pakistan sponsored militants in Kashmir.
“Decisive steps should be taken to teach Pakistan a lesson for sponsoring terror activities in Kashmir”, they said, adding that “DySP made supreme sacrifice for the nation and youth of Chenab Valley should follow his footprints to serve the nation”.
Earlier, the wreath laying ceremony of martyr DySP Aman Kumar Thakur was held in District Police Lines (DPL) here, wherein Governor Satya Pal Malik, MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, Speaker Legislative Assembly Dr Nirmal Singh, Advisors to Governor and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana paid floral tributes to the martyr. Senior politicians from different parties, civil society members, Army, CRPF and other police officers also turned up for the ceremony and paid floral tributes.
Meanwhile, Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Narayan Singh and observed two minutes silence in honour of martyr DySP Aman Kumar Thakur, whereas the workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena led by President Ashok Gupta held protest and demanded war against Pakistan.
The members of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Jammu led by its President BS Slathia held a ‘Shardanjali Samaroh’ in High Court premises here and paid tributes to the martyr DySP. The members recalled the sacrifice of DySP Aman Kumar Thakur for the cause of the nation.
Vice President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Ghulam Mohammad Saroori has expressed grief over the loss of DySP Aman Kumar Thakur. He extended his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
The members of the Central Government Pensioners Welfare Association (CGPWA) held a meeting and condemned the ongoing terror acts in Kashmir. The members of the Association namely VP Sharma, BK Raina, Prem Gupta, BL Banal and KB Jandial recalled bravery of DySP Aman Thakur.
