Thieves gang busted; jeweller among 3 arrested, gold worth Rs 8 lakh recovered

JAMMU, Jan 2: Bishnah Police busted thieves’ gang with the arrest of three persons including a jeweller and recovery of gold worth Rs 8 lakh.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Shridhar Patil while interacting with media persons here today.
Divulging the details, SSP said that a gang of thieves was zeroed in, when a case under FIR Number 184/2020 under Sections 457 and 380 IPC was registered at Police Station Bishnah after a complaint was filed regarding theft in a house.
“A special team led by SHO Bishnah Inspector Tahir Yousaf under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan took the digital evidences and collaborating with the human intelligence, plotted the movement of some suspected persons around the scene of crime”, SSP informed.
During the course of investigation, two persons were zeroed in and after conducting the raids at different places the special team arrested them, SSP said, adding that the duo were identified as Vijay Kumar, son of Kartar Chand and Sandeep Singh alias Seepu, son of Ashok Singh, both residents of Pallanwala tehsil Akhnoor District Jammu. A jeweller identified as Rakesh Verma, son of Sashi Pal of Akhnoor, district Jammu was also arrested.
“When put to sustained questioning the trio accepted the crime. Sandeep and Vijay were involved in theft and after stealing the gold, they went to Rakesh’s shop and sold the jewellery to him. It also came out during questioning from the accused that Rakesh was involved in some previous deals also with these thieves. On their disclosures, gold ornaments worth Rs 8 lakhs were recovered”, SSP informed.
“The trio disclosed that they were involved in some more thefts earlier for which FIR Numbers 41/17, 158/2017 and 3030/2020 under Sections 457 and 380 RPC were lodged at Khour, Akhnoor and Bari Brahmana Police Stations respectively”, SSP stated.
Police is also looking for two more accomplices including a jeweller who were also having hand in glove with this gang, SSP added.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu Aadil Hamid and SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil.
