Tharoor slams Govt on Kashmir, laments on arrest of Abdullahs and Mehbooba

NEW DELHI:Congress member Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday lashed out at the Modi Government for its Kashmir policy and lamented that several leaders in the new created Union Territory is under detention and also are being “shunted out” from one place to another.
“….It has been nearly four months since Home Minister (Amit Shah) introduced Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill. Since that time our own citizens, political leaders and one of our own members has been living under a clamped down. He has been living under detention,” Mr Tharoor said in Lok Sabha while initiating discussions on the Supplementary Demands for Grants.
He said “in the absence of any return to normalcy” in Jammu and Kashmir, the allocation as proposed by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Supplementary Demands for fiscal 2019-20 would mean “very little”.
He pointed out that as many as 30 political leaders have been kept under detention and some of them in ‘solitary’.
His reference to the likes of Mehbooba Mufti of PDP and National Conference leaders Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, also a former Chief Minister of the ‘united’ Jammu and Kashmir.
“These leaders are now being shunted from one location to another,” he said, adding there has been also allegation of manhandling by police as well.(AGENCIES)
