Following United Nations Security Council declaring Pakistani terrorist Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, Pakistan has found itself mortified in ordering to freeze the assets owned by him and his organisation as also preventing him from acquiring or selling weapons and ammunition. His connections and ties with Al-Qaida having been established , his connections with other outfits and organisations spreading violence and mayhem too have been found out.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a notification confirming that Pakistan was committed to fully implement the Resolution No.2368 (2017) of the UNSC which inter-alia ‘reaffirms’ that terrorism in all forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to peace and security and that any act of terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable regardless of motivations. It further recognised that terrorism posed a threat to international peace and security and that countering that threat required collective efforts on national, regional and the international levels on the basis of respect for international law and the charter of the United Nations. Hence, Pakistan cannot obliterate in any way whatsoever its international obligation , now that it is officially confirmed that Masood was a Pakistani national and a global terrorist as well.
