The police said the accused Mohd Azam was involved in FIR No. 27/2023 registered at Police Station Mandi. He had earlier exfiltrated to Pakistan/PoJK and has been operating from there. Subsequently, he was declared a proclaimed offender by a court here. Despite sustained efforts, he continued to evade arrest, prompting the court to order attachment of his property.
Acting on these directions, Poonch Police, in close coordination with the Revenue authorities, executed the attachment of the said immovable property.
This action highlights Poonch Police’s firm resolve to uphold the rule of law and ensure that absconders and proclaimed offenders face the consequences of their unlawful acts. Efforts are being intensified to trace and apprehend Mohd Azam.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mohd Azam is an active handler of the proscribed terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and is involved in multiple militancy-related cases. After escaping to Pakistan/PoJK, he has been continuously engaged in subversive activities in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly targeting the Poonch-Rajouri region, the police added.
Property of the accused was attached by a police team headed by Additional SP Poonch Mohan Sharma.
