POONCH, Sept 6: Tension gripped Poonch city today after some miscreants tried to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular sect by their nefarious act, leading to strong protest and blockade of road for over three hours by people from the other group today.
The people belonging to a particular group came out on the road in large number and resorted to protest. They raised barricades and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on Poonch road for about two and half hours. They were shouting slogans and seeking strict action against the accused who threw some religious literature in Betar nalla for disposal by igniting it. However, timely intervention of some locals defeated their designs.
They caught hold of four persons of a particular sect and thrashed them. They also took the old literature packed gunny bags into their possession and handed them over to police. One of them, however, managed to escape.
The people after coming to know about the matter, came out on the road at around 9 am and blocked road. They resorted to strong protest. SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain and ADC, Poonch Anwar Hussain assured the public that strict action will be taken against the arrested accused persons. They defused the tension and deployed additional security personnel in sensitive areas of the city to prevent any untoward incident.
A police spokesman said that four persons have been arrested in this connection and manhunt for fifth was going on.
