UDHAMPUR, July 29: A Need Base Daily Rated Worker of Power Development Department was electrocuted while performing his official duty and repairing some fault on an electric pole, here late last night.
The deceased was identified as Sudershan Kumar (28), son of Shiv Ram of village Mand East. He received electric shock while working on an electric pole and fell down. Some local rushed him to Primary Health Centre Tikri where doctors declared him as brought dead.
In the morning, a large number of local people assembled on the National Highway and held a strong protest demonstration against PDD following which MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta and XEn PDD also reached the spot.
As the protesting people were demanding adequate compensation to family of the deceased Lineman, the XEn PDD announced Rs one lakh immediate relief to the family. He also assured that one family member of the deceased will be deputed as the Need Base Worker in the department.
