Temple theft case worked out, stolen gold ornaments recovered

REASI, Oct 19: Exhibiting prompt action, Police have solved a theft case reported from a temple premises in the main bazaar area of Katra within 72 hours, leading to the arrest of the accused and recovery of stolen gold ornaments.
Following a complaint at Police Station Katra regarding the theft of gold ornaments from the idol inside a temple located in the main bazaar on October 15, 2025, an FIR number 281/2025 under sections 331(4)/305(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered and investigation was taken up.
Through strenuous efforts, diligent fieldwork and analysis of available leads, the police successfully identified and apprehended the suspect – Shakti Kumar Verma son of Sansar Chand, resident of Garhi, District Udhampur.
During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed his involvement in the theft. On his disclosure, 30 grams of gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh were recovered from his possession.
The case was worked out by the Police team, led by SHO Katra, Inspector Khyatiman Khajuria, under the leadership of SDPO Katra, Dr Bhishm Dubey.
