Temp slightly rises, MeT office forecasts wet weather ahead

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Jan 25: The Jammu and Kashmir could see an end to prolonged dry spell with the forecast of rain and snowfall at scattered to widespread places over the next few days while the Kashmir and Jammu regions recorded a slight rise in temperature today.
Five trains and three flights in Jammu were cancelled and five trains and five flights delayed today as fog continued to engulf the region. The vehicular traffic has also been affected for the last few weeks due to fog and poor visibility.
An official at Jammu Airport said that three flights were cancelled and five others delayed at Jammu due to poor visibility and foggy weather conditions in the region. He said three IndiGo flights (Del-Jmu-Sgr, Sgr-Jmu-Bom & Del-Jmu-Del), were cancelled today. Five other flights including four IndiGo and two SpiceJet were delayed during morning hours at Jammu Airport due to fog on Thursday.
A Northern Railways official said that five trains including Jhelum Express (11077/ 11078), Kota Express, Tirunveli Exp and Durg Express were cancelled today at Jammu due to foggy weather conditions. He added that Tata Muri Express was late by 8 hours. Malwa and Himgiri Express by 5 hours, Shalimar Express by 3 hours while Puja Express arrived late by one hour at Jammu station due to fog in northern region.
Meanwhile, a MeT official said that night temperature recorded a slight increase today amid forecast for isolated to scattered light rain and snow over hills of Kashmir.
The weatherman forecasted light rain for the isolated to fairly widespread light rain and snow for next two days.
The MeT office issued an advisory in wake of the weather system from January 28-31, saying that the same may lead to temporary closure of roads of higher reaches and important passes like Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna and Razdan Passes, Zojila etc.
“Travelers are advised to plan accordingly,” a Meteorological department official said.
One Feb 1, he said, there is a possibility of light rain/snow at scattered places.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.6°C against minus 5.3°C the previous night and it was 1.3°C below normal; Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 4.2°C against minus 5.4°C the previous night; Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.3°C, same as the previous night and it was 1.2°C above normal, Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 1.6°C against minus 2.3°C the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 2.0°C for the place, Kupwara a low of minus 2.9°C against minus 5.3°C the previous night while Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 4.5°C against minus 4.8°C the previous night.
The summer capital recorded a maximum of 11.0 degree Celsius temperature today which was 4.1 degree Celsius above normal for the city for this time of the year, Qazigund recorded a maximum of 10.4 degree Celsius which is 3.6 degree Celsius above normal, Pahalgam a maximum of 8.8 degree Celsius which is 4.3 degree Celsius above normal, Kupwara 11.8 degree Celsius which is 4.4 degree C above normal, while Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 4.2 degree Celsius which is 3.8 degree Celsius above normal for the place during this time of the year.
Showing some improvement in the weather, the winter capital Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 4.1 degree Celsius and maximum 12.6 against yesterday’s 9 deg C (Chatha Observatory).
Holy township of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 and maximum 17.5 degrees; Bhaderwah tourist resort a minimum of -0.4 and maximum 13.8 degree C; Batote town a night temperature of 2.1 degrees and day temp of 12.6 while highway township of Banihal a minimum temperature of -1.4 and maximum 15.4 degree Celsius on Thursday.
