RAMBAN, May 14: An unknown vehicle hit a 14-year-old boy leaving him dead in Haribair area of Kaskoot in Banihal on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Hauzifa Manzoor Zohda, son of Manzoor Ahmed Zohda.
According to officials, the boy sustained grievous injuries after he was hit by the vehicle that fled the spot immediately after the accident.
Locals rushed the injured teenager to Sub-District Hospital Banihal where he received initial treatment. However, doctors referred him to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced treatment but the boy succumbed to his injuries en-route.
SSP Ramban, Arun Gupta said that a case has been registered in this regard at Police Station Banihal in FIR No. 89 of 2026 under relevant sections of law, including Sections 281 and 106 of BNS and investigation has been started.
He also said that the vehicle involved in the accident has been identified and efforts were underway to trace it.
