Technocrat as Director Horticulture

Sir,
Hailing the decision of Agriculture Minister of the State for the appointment of an agriculture graduate and postgraduate as Director Agriculture-Jammu, Agriculture University Jammu Alumni Association (AUJAA) of SKUAST-Jammu feels that this decision of Agriculture Minister speaks much about his prudence for this judicious move.  It has been long understood even by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Government of India that agriculture is a multifaceted profession which is well understood after a protracted experience in this field only by an agricultural technocrat. This has led the Government of India to appoint an agricultural technocrat not only as Director General of ICAR, but also Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) so that their vast experience helps them make policies for preparing various meaningful schemes for increasing production and productivity in various components of agriculture. In line with the earlier decision, the Agriculture Minister is urged to take similar action for appointing a technocrat as Director Horticulture so that his expertise in the subject coupled with his lifetime experience in the field of horticulture will unequivocally help him utilize the same in boosting horticulture in Jammu region.
It is worthwhile to mention here that horticulture sector has got a fillip since the creation of separate Directorate in Jammu: in J&K State, strawberry was grown only in Kashmir, but with the introduction of strawberry in Jammu region by the earlier Directors of Horticulture, Jammu left Kashmir behind in strawberry production and farmers of the region are earning huge profits from the same piece of land, where they used to grow other crops with low income return, and this has resulted in enhancing their economic status. It is requested to the Agriculture Minister to repeat his judicious decision vis-à-vis Horticulture Department and a technocrat may be appointed as Director Horticulture for boosting horticulture sector in the region and augmenting income of the hitherto poor farmer of the State.
Yours etc……
