JAMMU, Sept 9: A society that forgets its martyrs will itself be forgotten one day. We are indebted to those martyrs who laid down their lives for ours and our families’ future.
These were the words of speakers who paid floral tributes to martyr Major Akash Singh on his martyrdom day today during a function organized by Team Jammu.
Major Akash Singh, a recipient of Shaurya Chakra, had attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists during an encounter on Line of Control in Poonch district on Sep 9, 2009.
Hundreds of people including students from various schools from different parts of city assembled at Rajpura Mangotrian Park today to remember the sacrifice of the martyr. Locals including the family of the martyred officer paid floral tributes on his 9th death anniversary.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, was chief guest on the occasion, while SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta and Colonel Ravinder Singh were guests of honor. In their respective addresses, they appealed people to always remember the sacrifices of martyred soldiers.
They said that the whole nation is indebted to Major Akash Singh for his supreme sacrifice. They said those who attain supreme sacrifices for nation are lucky and we must stand by the family members of martyrs so that they don’t feel alienated.
Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal who presided over the function, that supreme sacrifice of Major Akash Singh will be remembered for coming centuries. “Nation will forever remain indebted to soldiers like Major Akash Singh who fought valiantly, upheld highest traditions of our armed forces and nation,” he added and recalled martyr Major Akash Singh as a brave man who always wanted to be in the Army and serve the country”.
Prominent among others who paid tributes to the martyr were Dr Om Parkash, Subedar Major (retd) Mangal Sharma, Ex-Corporators, Manmohan Singh Manhas, Uttam Singh Chib and martyr’s family members including wife Deepti Sambyal, Khushi (daughter), Tejas (son), Rajeshwar Singh (brother), Dr Jagdev Singh (brother) and Vikas Singh (brother).
