Sir,
Urdu occupies pivotal place in the galaxy of languages. In our State, it stands crowned as an official language. It is adequately used in the departments like Revenue, Forests, Police and Judiciary. Candidates not knowing Urdu often get disadvantaged in their employment, where it is practically needed. Non-availability of Urdu teachers in schools, results adversely in its promotion. How confusing and disgusting it becomes when a well read man goes to someone for getting a piece of paper read which is in Urdu.
Apparently, teaching and learning of Urdu is of great significance, particularly in the State, where it is an official language. Almost all the elderly people are well conversant with Urdu, but the new generation, particularly in Jammu region, is kept away from its uses. Since the languages are beyond the barriers of religion and regions, their propagation and promotion need to be adequately done, to establish thick linkages among different areas of the State. Continued efforts to enrich and promote it by providing qualified Urdu teachers in schools, atleast upto Matric level, is very important, and therefore, can’t be over emphasised. The private institutions where bulk of students get enrolled in search of quality education due to obvious reasons, also need to be brought under its umbrella.
Yours etc…
