JAMMU, Dec 17: Police today foiled an attempt by the protesting teachers, who were marching towards Civil Secretariat to highlight their grievance in respect of non-payment of salary under SSA and RMSA for months.
Carrying banners and holding placards, the protesting teachers assembled near Press Club Jammu under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum and then started a march towards the Civil Secretariat. They were raising slogans against the Government and in support of their demands.
Abdul Qayoom Wani, State president of EJAC and chairman Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum, along with Ganesh Khajuria, general secretary JKTF, led the protesting teachers to highlight their demand.
However, police swung into action soon after the demonstration of protesting teachers turned into a procession and they tried to proceed towards the Civil Secretariat. Cops succeeded in foiling the march without using force.
Earlier, the protesting employees were addressed by their leaders. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wani and Ganesh Khujuria lambasted the role of HRD Ministry and the State Government in non-payment of salaries of teachers under SSA and RMSA.
“The issue needs the topmost priority but the negligent and non serious attitude of the people at the helm of affairs has severely affected the financial condition of the suffering teachers and the schooling of their children,” they lamented and warned a massive stir if the salaries under SSA and RMSA are not released within days.
Others, who addressed the protesting teachers, included Gopal Sharma, Rajinder Gupta, Darshan Sharma, Satish Dutta, Darshan Sungh, Yograj Singh, Rajeshwar Singh, Surat Singh Toofani, Jamayat Ali Aga, Roop Lal, Bashir Ahmad, Thakur Shri Deepak, Ramdir Singh and Ram Prashad.
