Taxi Operators Union demands compensation on Kashmir pattern

JAMMU, Sept 26: Taxi Operators Union, Railway Station, Jammu has demanded compensation on the pattern of Kashmir affected taxi operators.
Addressing a press conference, Davinder Choudhary, president, Taxi Operators Union stated that the tourist inflow in the State has seen a sharp decline after flash floods and indecent rains, which hampered their business badly for the past over three weeks.
He said that presently the number of pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi has also decreased, which resulted into stranding of the vehicles, adding that all Jammu based taxi operators suffered loss worth lakhs due to flash floods.
Choudhary added that their livelihood is completely dependent on the tourists and that they are facing manifold problems due to sharp decline in the tourists’ inflow in the State and Government should initiate some steps for their survival at the earliest.
He urged the State Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to grant compensation to all the Jammu based taxi operators on the pattern of Kashmir based taxi operators.
To boost the tourist industry in J&K and survival of taxi operators, Choudhary announced discount of 10 to 30 percent on normal rates to the tourists, who will visit Jammu province in near future so that taxi operators can earn their livelihood.
Among others present were Sanjay Sharma, general secretary, Taxi Operators Union, Railway Station, Jammu, Ranjit Singh, Chairman, Rakesh Sharma, Vice Chairman, Surinder Singh, vice president and Dalbir Singh, cashier. Besides members of Special Tourist Taxi Association, Jammu, Airport Taxi Drivers Association, Jammu and Jammu Taxi Federation, Railway Station Jammu were also present.
