JAMMU, Jan 22: Tax Bar Association has expressed its reservations over the e-filing of returns for the third quarter of current financial year.
A meeting of the Association was held today at the Bar Room in Excise and Taxation Complex, Rail Head Complex Jammu, under the chairmanship of Riaz Ahmed Buchh for discussing the issue.
The meet opined that the Commercial Taxes Department was working more in defiance of the Act and rules than observing the same. The advertisement in local dailies, issued by Commissioner Commercial Taxes claiming to have conducted numerous interactive sessions with the dealers and other stake holders for e-filing of returns is a travesty of truth as no such interaction was ever held with the Bar members, the Association observed.
The e-filing of the returns for third quarter of the current month, for which last date happens to be January 31, is not feasible either for the dealers or the professionals due to inadequate time for adopting the new system, want of procedural acumenship and infrastructure, the members said and urged the Commissioner to defer the decision on e-filing of returns till next financial year.
