JAMMU, Nov 19: A five day free cataract surgery camp, organized by Tawi Welfare Society, was inaugurated by the chief guest, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Block Development Officer, Mandal Phallain, at Apnavan, Suray Chak by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Vijay Sharma, Block Medical Officer, CHC Sohanjana was guest of honour.
A team of renowned eye specialists from Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, comprising Dr. Jyoti Katoch, Dr. Bharti Sarangal, Dr. Indu V. Shree, Dr. Aneesa Sambyal and Om Parkash, joined the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony and this team provided expert services throughout the camp.
During the camp 184 patients were screened and 33 were selected for free surgery.
Dr. Naresh Gupta (Retd.) and the para-medical staff from CHC Sohanjana including lab technicians played an important role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the screening day.
In his address, the chief guest lauded Tawi Welfare Society’s initiatives aimed at serving the needy and underprivileged sections of the society.
On this occasion the dignitaries also participated in a tree-planting ceremony.
Other prominent figures present on the occasion were Subash Chander Sharma and Amarjeet Kour, Mandal Pardhan BJP.
