UDHAMPUR, June 15: Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with PEACE organization organized Tawi Darshan at Dudu Village, Udhampur today by grand Abhishek and Aarti of Suryaputri Tawi, the symbol of Jammu’s History culture and religious ethos.
Dudu region blessed with unparalled natural beauty is abundant with scenic spots which are sure to charm and captivate the visitors. But unknown to all is the fact that Dudu is the place from where river coming from SeojKaplas is named and known as Tawi. The snow glacier at Seoj gives birth to this river which flows from Dudu Basantgarh region and reaches Jammu.
Director Tourism O P Bhagat inaugurated the event and said that similar programmes would be organized to promote Dudu region.
Speaking on the occasion Pran Singh, C.E.O Patnitop Development Authority Jammu said that “Tawi also known as Suryaputri Tawi is not only a river but also has always been revered as ocean of faith and belief by people of Jammu. Since Tawi is the lifeline of Jammu so to create an awareness amongst people about its source and also to promote Dudu and areas like Latti, Sudhmahadev, Mantalai etc. the event was proposed to be conducted here”.
Yesterday, cleanliness of entire area surrounding Tawi and at its origin was undertaken by PEACE organization with help of local students. Today first of its kind Aarti and traditional Abhishek of River Tawi was done. Earthen lamps floating on holy water, sacred chants and aroma of mesmerizing incense made everyone part of this celestial happening. Later, a cultural programme was organized by local artists which thoroughly blended in the ambience of Tawi giving everyone an experience beyond words.
Also, Prof. Shiv Datt Nirmohi, the prolific writer of the region addressed the audience with respect to River Tawi its source origin and course.He urged for the need to keep the river clean and give back to its original crystal clear looks. Shiv Nirmohi has explored Jammu & Kashmir region extensively and published more than 30 books on various historical and cultural aspects of the region. As a token of respect tourism department felicitated Shiv Nirmohi for his contributions for promoting culture and heritage of Jammu.
Uttam Singh, I/c Police PostDudu, Dev Raj Bhagat, Sarpanch Dudu, Narinder Sharma, president PEACE Organisation and others were important dignitaries present on the occasion.
