KULGAM4: Member Legislative Assembly from Kulgam Constituency, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today chaired a meeting to discuss measures needed to make Kulgam a green Constituency.
District Development Commissioner Kulgam Talat Parvez Rohella, Director Urban Local Bodies, Reyaz Ahmad, Principal GDC Kulgam, ADDC, ADC, ACR, ACD, Exens of R&B, PHE, I&FC, DPO, DFO, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Tehsildars, BDOs, Principals of Higher Secondary Schools, Zonal Education Officers, and other sectoral heads attended the meeting.
Tarigami, who is also chairman of Environment Committee of Legislative Assembly, said that with evolution, humanity has learnt how to live with the natural environment.
“The pressure on natural resources has put pressure on the environment and it is our responsibility to preserve the nature by taking corrective and conservation measures,” he said.
It was decided that an initiative ‘Go Green’ would be launched under which 10 lakh saplings shall be planted to increase the green cover in the district.
The MLA also highlighted the need for making the farmers aware about the use of pesticides. It was accordingly decided that Horticulture Department shall adopt two villages in Kulgam Constituency for motivating the farmers for using bio-pesticides. The CHO informed the meeting that 33 hectares of land shall be used for cultivation of ultra high density and high-density plantation.
Besides, it was also decided that Agriculture Department shall adopt five villages who shall switch over to organic farming.
The Departments were given specific targets for planting trees as part of the ‘Go Green’ initiative.
It was given out that Urban Development Department shall develop liquid waste management and slaughter house facility in the town.
