Tanvir meets Netherland’s Health Minister, Ambassador

NEW DELHI, Feb 4: Tanvir Sadiq, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on the invitation of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Alphonsus Stoelinga visited the Ambassador’s residence in New Delhi and met with Edith Schippers Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport of Netherlands.
The Political Secretary discussed various matters of mutual interest. The health and sports potential of Jammu and Kashmir was also briefly discussed. Principal Resident Commissioner New Delhi K.B Aggrawal, Sharmila Bihari, Counselor Economic and Trade Affairs, Ravleen Paul, Senior Policy Advisor were also present.
Later, in the Netherlands Embassy the Political Secretary along with the Principal Resident Commissioner were introduced to Dr N Khandelwal who runs an NGO Asha Jyoti a population-based screening programme of women aged between 40 and 60 years to ensure early detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer and osteoporosis.
Tanvir was shown the van and told that the vision of Asha Jyoti was to develop a high quality, mobile screening facility to provide decentralized primary healthcare on people’s doorsteps, to detect three major diseases effecting women’s health and to provide diagnostic follow-up and therapy to the community free of cost.
He was told that a multidisciplinary team of health care specialists from PGIMER, formulated this program. Teams from Philips Healthcare and RAD-AID supported the initiative to reach the underprivileged population in the northern part of India.
Tanvir invited the Asha Jyoti team to Jammu and Kashmir and the NGO officials promised that they will schedule a visit to Jammu, Kashmir and Leh in coming months.
