RAMBAN, Sept 12: Chanderkote Police today arrested a tanker driver after 1 kg of poppy straw was recovered from his vehicle.
Police sources said that a team of Police Station Chanderkote headed by SHO Inspector Padam Dev Singh intercepted a gas tanker bearing registration number PB03AT-3234 on Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Chanderkote area. During search of the vehicle, 17 kilograms of Poppy straw concealed in a plastic bag and hidden under a seat was recovered.
The driver of the gas tanker Mushtaq Ahmad son of Ghulam Rasool Koka, resident of Chiveli Senabhatti (tehsil Pogal Paristan, district Ramban), was arrested, officials said, adding the accused disclosed that he was carrying the contraband from Srinagar to Jammu for selling purpose.
A case in this connection was registered at Chanderkote Police Station and investigation started.
