SRINAGAR, Jan 19: Jammu and Kashmir Taleem-ul-Madaris Ahle Sunnat Sufi, a religious organization, protested here today, alleging that they are being denied the advantages of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) schemes aimed at minority-owned charity trusts and madrasas.
Around a dozen of the organization gathered here and shouted slogans in support of their demands. They claim that despite completing the necessary paperwork, they are denied the benefits of the MHRD’s schemes such as SPQEM/ IDM, which are designed for minority-owned non-commercial organizations such as charitable trusts and Madrasas. “We have visited the education department multiple times on the issue but to no avail,” Mohammad Ashraf, Chairman Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahle Sunnat, said.
He alleged that the authorities were looking for a bribe from them in order to include them in the scheme. “We have videographic evidence of a person who wanted a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs on behalf of the school education department,” he said.
He said that the scheme’s benefits are being extended to some commercial schools, which he claimed goes against the scheme’s objective. “We have a list of schools that are receiving benefits from the scheme,” he added.
Protesters urged Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha, to investigate the matter.
