Taj reviews Ladakh PHE, Irrigation schemes

SRINAGAR, Aug 30: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi ud Din, who is on a three day visit to the region, today reviewed the status of hydraulic schemes in the districts of Leh and Kargil at a meeting of officers and engineers.
The Minister directed the engineers to complete all the ongoing schemes at the earliest facilitating people.
Mr. Taj asked the engineers to accord top priority to uncovered and far flung areas while formulating new schemes. He also directed release of Rs. 42 crore for completing all ongoing schemes. He directed deployment of a separate rig exclusively for Leh and Kargil districts to expedite exploration of groundwater and sub surface water in the area.
The Minister also directed establishment of water testing labs at the district headquarters of Leh and Kargil immediately for which he directed engagement of staff on contractual basis.
The meeting was told that 240 out of 356 schools in the district have been provided with water filtration kits.
Under the Irrigation & Flood Control sector, the Minister asked the concerned agencies to complete the projects within the earmarked timeline.
On the demand of separate sub divisions for Nobra and Khaltsi, Mr. Taj asked the Chief Engineer, Kashmir to explore the demand and come up with a report.
CEC, LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councilors, LAHDC, Leh, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, T. Angchuk, Chief Engineers of several wings besides officers and engineers were present in the meeting.
Later, the Minister inaugurated a workshop on water sanitation organized by Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) at Choglamsar.
On the occasion, he also released a CCDU manual for water usage.
