Taiwan stocks end down; Hon Hai ticks up after earnings

TAIPEI, Oct 31: Taiwan stocks ended down 0.23 percent on Wednesday, underperforming most other regional bourses, although Apple supplier Hon Hai rose 0.8 percent after posting strong third-quarter results.
The main TAIEX index closed 16.54 points lower at 7,166.05, paring back some of a 1.28 percent gain in the previous session. The heavyweight electronics sub-index fell 0.11 percent.
Just before the open, the government cut its GDP forecast for 2012 for the ninth time in just over a year.
The Taiwan dollar climbed slightly to trade at T$29.264.
Foreign investors were net sellers on Tuesday, bringing their total selling to T$30.48 billion this month.
