JAMMU, Sept 19: A team of State Vigilance Organization, Jammu today conducted a raid in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in connection with purchase of spurious drugs/ medicines on exorbitant rates during the year 2015-2016 by Government Health Department, Jammu without following proper procedure.
According to official sources, a Vigilance team this afternoon conducted a raid in store of Surgical Operation Theatre of GMC Jammu and searched the premises thoroughly. The raid continued for about four hours during which relevant records and documents were seized.
The Vigilance team also questioned many doctors including Head of Surgery Department, Dr Tariq Azad, in connection with the case, sources said, adding, later the team also met Principal of the College, Dr Sunanda Raina.
Sources said that the same Vigilance team had also conducted surprise check yesterday during which they investigated many doctors and cross checked and documents.
They said that the raids were conducted in connection with an old case of purchase of spurious drugs/medicines on exorbitant rates during the year 2015-2016 by Government Health Department, Jammu, in which a case FIR No 22/2017 P/S VOJ, stands registered against Dr Yashpal Sharma, then Managing Director JKMSCL, Dr Ghanshyam Dev, then Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Rameshwar Sharma, Senior Consultant, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Sayed Shabir Ahmad, FA/CAO JKMSCL, Dr Rakesh Verma, Consultant/Physician (Technical Expert), Dr Parkash Atri, Technical Expert of the supplier Theon Pharmaceutical Ltd, 400 Indl Area, Phase-I Panchkula 134113 Haryana and others under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
