LEH, (Ladakh) Mar 1: Under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, an awareness camp organised by District Election Office, Leh was held at Ice-stupa Phuktse. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Sachin Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Joint Director Education, Ladakh, Tashi Dolma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kharu Ghulam Mohammed, Dy. Chief Education Officer, Qayum, Zonal Education Officer, Tsewang Namgyal, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Leh Tajamul Ara, Naib Tehsildar, Gya Abdul Rahim, Sarpanch Sonam Thardot, nambardars of Shara and Sharnos and villagers of Shara, Sharnos and Phuktse in large number were also present during the awareness programme.
ADC Sachin while talking in detail about the importance of voting rights urged upon all present to exercise their voting rights. Citing examples of other highly populated regions, ADC stressed on the importance of exercising franchise and urged people to make sure to cast their votes. Every election and voting process provides an important chance to elect a responsible individual who would work for a better future. Therefore no one should stay without exercising their voting right, added ADC, Sachin.
SDM Gh. Mohd. talking about last year’s Panchayat election voter turnout of only 62% in Ladakh as compared to other parts of the State where it was 70 -80%, stressed on coming out of their homes to vote in maximum number this time. Speaking in tandem JDE Tashi Dolma urged for maximum registration of new voters. He said no one should in any way get lured by money or get influenced by relatives during elections and exercise their franchise wisely.
On the occasion, hands on training of the EVM VVPAT machines was also given by Assembly level master trainer, Abdul Rahim to the villagers. As a part of SVEEP, team of Education Department spoke in detail about election and the importance of exercising their franchise.
