SVC detects embezzlement in Joint Resident Commission Office Mumbai

JAMMU, Dec 1:  The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has detected embezzlement in Joint Resident Commission Office, Mumbai.
The enquiry revealed misappropriation of Rs 4.55 lacs by Jawaid Ahmad Shah, the then Joint Resident Commissioner Mumbai, who had drawn the amount as House Rent Allowances during the period September, 2011 to November, 2014, though he was using Government Guest House Haveli as his residence.
It is also detected that no proper accounting procedure was followed to ensure recovery of rent from all those using Government accommodation at the J&K Joint Resident Commission Mumbai and no reconciliation of accounts has been carried out.
Taking serious note of prima-facie establishment of charges of embezzlement/misappropriation against Jawaid Ahmad Shah and others, the Commission has directed for conduct of Regular Departmental Action against the said officer besides, recovering of the embezzled amount after serving articles of charges to the officer.
The Secretary to the Government, Hospitality and Protocol Department has been directed to take necessary legal action, if warranted, after completion of Regular Departmental Enquiry under CSR. The State Vigilance Commission has also directed the Department for immediate audit and inspection to be carried out at Joint Resident Commission Office Mumbai to ascertain any other cases of similar embezzlements.
