SRINAGAR, Mar 13: The residents of Suthra Shahi in Karan Nagar today accused the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) of inaction in ensuring that the residential structures that are in use for the business activities follow the directives issued from time to time by the court as well as the Corporation itself.
In this regard, the SMC had earlier ordered resealing of premises of two individuals who were using the residential structures for commercial use in the residential areas, while another individual had informed the SMC last June that he was shifting his commercial establishment.
The concerned individual named Umar Imtiyaz has even given an undertaking to the SMC in this regard and it was noted by the Corporation in an order issued that in case of violation, the structure would be re-sealed without any further notice.
However, the residents of the area under the banner of the Joint Coordination Committee told Excelsior that the commercial activities by the said individual continue despite the undertaking even as, they said, the SMC has failed to carry out the necessary action in this regard.
They also demanded a probe by the ACB on the handling of the issues by the SMC in the area and also the free hand being given to the violators to operate without any action.
They said that they have time and again brought the violation to the notice of the concerned Enforcement Officer in the area, but to no avail.
“While there is a violation by the concerned who had stated that he was shifting his commercial activities, the other two that also operating in the area, are also violating the orders; while the matter is subjudice, they have been directed to ensure that heavy vehicles are not parked in the area and also ensure that road is not blocked given the residential nature of the area,” the residents said.
The SMC’s Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) told Excelsior that while the matter happened way before he assumed the charge, he will have to look into the details. “I will see to it and the necessary steps will be taken,” he said.
