Suspension of mobile internet, other services in Valley increases BSNL popularity

JAMMU, Aug 22: Due to ongoing turmoil in Kashmir and consequent suspension of mobile internet as well as other services of private telecom operators there, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has added around 20 thousand more post paid customers in Valley and provided 3500 Broadband connections in the State during the last one and half month.
“In Kashmir valley, 15-20 thousand post paid mobile connections were given while 30 to 40 percent increase was registered in landline connections in the State during this period,” informed H K Verma, Chief General Manager of J&K Telecom Circles, BSNL Jammu, while addressing a press conference, here today.
During the current year, there is plan to provide 22500 landline, 25000 broadband and 2,40,000 mobile connections throughout the State, he added.
On the occasion, the CGM announced some attractive offers for landline customers, which include unlimited free calling on Sunday, promotional offer of providing BSNL landline service at Rs 49 per month for a period of 90 days and upgraded Broadband speed to minimum 1Mbps.
While elaborating, he said that unlimited free calling on Sundays from its Landline phones to all Service Providers network is in addition to free calling during Night hours, from 9 p.m to 7 a.m, already being offered by BSNL to all Landline and Broadband customers.
Further, he added, for attracting new customers in Landline segment, BSNL has introduced a promotional offer , under which fixed monthly charges of Rs 49 shall be charged for first six months and after expiry of this period, the customer shall be charged as per fixed monthly charges of general plan in respective area.
“For the benefit of Broadband customers, BSNL has also upgraded the Broadband speed to minimum 1Mbps after high speed FUP quota at no additional cost for concerned existing users, who are under Broadband Plan of post FUP speed of 512 kbps,” Mr Verma informed.
He also disclosed that BSNL was holding mega Melas on August 23 and 24 at around 200 locations throughout the State, except Srinagar, for delivering its various telecom services at the customer’s doorstep.
Highlighting major plans and steps for improvement of BSNL network and services in J&K, the CGM informed that for providing Landline and Broadband services, Expression of Interest has been floated for laying of under ground cable in Sainik Colony, Bathindi, Trikuta Nagar, Transport Nagar, Janipur, Gujjar Nagar, Talab Tillo and Ban Talab areas.
“For improving the network performance and speed, J&K BSNL has enhanced the Jammu-New Delhi existing bandwidth by 5G and also Jammu-Srinagar to 20G from 10G. Plans have been made to further enhance the bandwidth between Jammu-New Delhi and improve stability by hiring leased media with stringent SLA to overcome interruption in connectivity,” he said and added that new optical fibre 1500 RKM has been planned on Leg-Srinagar alternate route to Srinagar from Jammu via Mughal road covering Bafliaz and Rajouri.
Besides, fresh optical fibre cable is also being laid between Udhampur and Doda, Doda-Kishtwar, Doda-Bhaderwah, Rajouri-Poonch and many other areas. “Alternate to optical fibre routes, microwave systems have also been planned for Rajouri, Poonch, Bhaderwah and Natha Top while new 10 Mb Satellite Media has been commissioned at Leh for providing alternate connectivity for data services to Leh in case of failure of optical fibre cable,” he said .
Informing that Trikuta Nagar Service Centre has been planned to be made Model Customer Service Centre, the CGM said that the BSNL J&K Circle earned a net profit of Rs 12.87 crore as against a loss of Rs 3,79 crores during the previous financial year.
