JAMMU, Apr 24: The residents of Suriya Vihar Patta Bohri have expressed grave concern over the delay in modernization of Distributory No 7 D of main Ranbir Canal from RD 875 to 980 meters in the area though the work stands allotted over a month before.
The Executive Body of the Suriya Vihar Welfare Committee which met here today under the chairmanship of Hans Raj Mahajan, president of the Committee said that the work was allotted on March 19 this year but even after the passage of one month its execution has not been under taken.
It said despite the clear cut orders from the authorities no construction work has been started till date resulting in problems to the people of the area. The meeting in an appeal to concerned Executive Engineer urged him to take immediate steps in executing the work failing which the residents of the area will take to streets.
The meeting also expressed concern over abandoning the work of footpaths construction on the embankment of canal from Lane No 1 to Lane 7 in Suriya Vihar, Ward No 41. It said the concerned authorities have started the work but abandoned the same later turning down the directions of JMC Commissioner in this regard.
The meeting also alleged that the infrastructure for supply of electricity in the area is so poor that it can collapse at any time. Such a worst condition of power infrastructure can prove catastrophic for local residents. The residents demanded the up-gradation of the electricity infrastructure in the area which has not bee improved for years together.
The meeting urged the authorities in general and JMC Commissioner in particular to visit the area to have at and on study of the peoples problems there. It urged the JMC Commissioner to pass on directives to concerned staff to maintain proper sanitation in the area.
The meeting among others was attended by Parshotam Sharma, T K Kaw, C L Chatta, Ashwani Khajuria, Ashok Khazanchi, S Paramjeet Singh Maan, I K Khushoo, Ramesh Kumar and J L Bhat.
