JAMMU, May 22: The Leader of Opposition(LoP) in the J&K Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma today launched a scathing attack on the National Conference (NC) for what he described as a “deliberate and disgraceful” omission of India’s recent military triumph, Operation Sindoor, from the party’s latest executive meeting resolutions.
In a statement issued, Sharma expressed deep concern over NC’s failure to acknowledge the success of the landmark counter-terrorism operation, which has drawn international praise for the Indian armed forces.
He said, “Operation Sindoor has not only enhanced India’s global counter-terrorism image but also reflected the unmatched bravery, precision and strategic excellence of our military forces. It is disappointing and disrespectful that not one of the seven NC resolutions mentioned the sacrifices and achievements of our soldiers.”
Sharma highlighted that Operation Sindoor, a meticulously coordinated military campaign, struck heavily at terror camps across the Line of Control, including targets within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).
“This mission was a clear message to hostile forces and a proud moment for our nation. Ignoring such a critical development raises serious questions about NC’s political motivations,” he stated.
Criticizing NC for advocating Indo-Pak dialogue in its resolutions, Sharma remarked that such matters fall strictly under the purview of the Union Government and Ministry of External Affairs.
“The National Conference is overstepping its constitutional limits by making demands that lie outside its jurisdiction. It only creates confusion and misleads the public,” he asserted.
The BJP leader said, “The Supreme Court has already ruled definitively on this issue. Bringing it up again serves no purpose but to cling to a defunct narrative. Article 370 is history.”
He termed the NC’s demand “politically driven and poorly timed” and said, “It is shameful that the NC’s resolutions do not even mention areas like Arnia, Hiranagar, RS Pura, Rajouri, Uri and Poonch regions constantly under threat from across the border. Where is the concern for relief, rehabilitation or compensation for these people?”
In a sharp rebuke, Sharma also condemned the NC for not holding Pakistan accountable for the recent killing of 26 innocent tourists in Pahalgam, an act of terror that shocked the nation.
“Their silence on Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism is not just disappointing – it’s irresponsible. The people deserve better from their political representatives,” he added.
